Greetings from Living Canvas!
CINDY JOHNSON BAUMGARTNER: Abstract Artist
Hi friends, I was born and raised on Bailey Island, Maine, an enchanting lobstering village. Yup, I'm a Main"e"-ac. The ocean has always been my inspiration and the creativity for my daily life, body, mind and spirit. I began my artistry drawing in sand at the beach with rocks, shells, sticks, my finger or perhaps a fishbone, crab leg or lobster claw. At a young age my mother taught 4H photography and passed the bug on to me. In my younger years abstract photography was my passion and voice. It was necessary to supplement that habit by working at a portrait studio and later with my own business as an environmental portraiture and wedding photographer. I’ve dabbled in jewelry design, soap making and assembling a fashion statement for next to nothing. My Yankee frugality has served me well.
I embarked on abstract painting about 6 years ago. It is soul work. I continually learn from other artists and experimentation. The voice I discovered with photography as a young girl has reemerged, dare I say, with maturity and wisdom. The prerequisite to all my art pieces is to have fun. I thoroughly enjoy playing with color, texture, contrast, a wide array of tools, from nature and the art store. The ocean, Island life, and color is the foundation of all my work. From there I play with all the above-mentioned tools but most importantly I follow what speaks to me visually and to my heart.
My new venture with LivingCanvas, wearable and affordable art, stemmed from the desire to share my art from canvas to contemporary clothing, stylish shoes, bags and awesome accessories. I believe all people are individually distinctive, Admirable, Beautiful, Creative. (the ABC’s of my shop) Each product is an opportunity to express your own uniqueness.
My creativity from photography, jewelry design, soap making and now LivingCanvas has always been an intentional means to support children in poverty through Compassion International. For 30 years (I’m now a grandmother of 4) I have partnered with Compassion and dedicate10% of my profits to needy kids. Compassion International’s maxim is: “Releasing Children from Poverty, in the name of Jesus.” Transforming hopelessness to hope. One child at a time.
